Two stories, or: what music is all about!

6 10 2007

I wanna tell you two stories…

First: yesterday saw another proof for the inproportionality of the american justice, and the greed of the RIAA and major record labels. The RIAA wins in big court and destroys the life of young single mother Jammie Thomas - for music. For sharing 24 songs on some p2p network. Humanity obviously is not something majors and lawyers care about. I say it open: I’m disgusted by those assholes (go ahead, sue me, I don’t give a fuck!) and feel like smashing some faces in. Of course I won’t ever do that, I’m a pacifist, but I’m sure it would feel good. Go read the full story over here.
Lesson: music is not for ruining people!

Story Two: a few blocks from my flat there’s a gas station which I visit almost every day, as it’s also a small supermarket. I get my pizza there, my beer, my playboy… well, and the seller over there is a pretty po-faced guy, almost never even saying “Hello” or “Thanks” or anything. So two days ago I came from a session with a friend and had my bass guitar with me, in a gig bag. He looked at the bag and mumbled something like “need new strings… six months old”. I was like “Err, sorry, what..?” and suddenly he started smiling and explained he plays the guitar and needs to put new strings on and that he doesn’t have enough time to play for his job at the gas station and what not. We were talking some minutes about music and guitars, and now every time I come in he’s all friendly and talkative.
Lesson: music for connecting people!
